B24 25-room lodge on 13+ acres with best volcano lava views - $1,800,000 |
This very fine hotel is one of only a few tourist establishments that have lava-flow views at Arenal Volcano, something tourists at the almost 100 other hotels around the base of the volcano can only imagine. At this lodge the nightly view of lava cascading down the whole mountainside - accompanied by huge bounding red-hot boulders - is truly spectacular. The hotel is outside the volcano danger zone and is within the biological corridor between La Reserva de Monteverde (the famous cloud forest area) and El Parque Nacional de Volcan Arenal. There is a restaurant seating 80 people, a pool with swim-up bar, 25 rooms with bathrooms, walk-in closets, and private balconies, beautiful tropical gardens, walking trails in the private forest, and a conference room for 30 people. There are also fine views of Lake Arenal, which is just across the road from the hotel. Though tourists have to travel a few miles on a secondary road to reach this lodge, the once-in-lifetime views make them glad they did. |
This property may be able to take advantage of the newly liberalized ICE rules and make application to access the lake thorugh the restricted 50-meter zone so as to provide water activities with a floating dock and small building. |

Recent developments have given this property some very important potential. The unpaved road that borders the lake on the southern and western sidethe lake was declared a national road last year with pavement and bridging reportedly due to start this year. This road will then possibly surpass the current tourist corridor around the other side of the lake as the quickest way to Liberia airport and the beaches. More importantly, it will make possible travel by car alone to Monteverde, replacing the van-boat-van system currently in use. Across the road from the hotel, the property includes 100 meters of lake front where a floating dock and service building may be placed under newly liberal rules from ICE, the lake's administrator, which recently has been granting permits to access the waters from bordering properties. A new road and water access will give a tremendous boost to this already fine hotel. Another ecological plus is the hotel's own sewage treatment system. |

Guests at the lodge can have these dawn and mid-day views of Arenal Volcano. The road to the lodge passes between the lake and the north flank of the volcano. In reality, the mountain appears closer than it does here. At night, the spilling lava reveals its location. |
