H131 Colorful home with sunset view in Tierras Morenas - $75,000 |
The village of Tierras Morenas has an excellent location about 25 minutes from Tilaran. It's the end of the paved road that comes up from the northern end of the lake through the village of Sabalito. The road crests the top of the range separating the lake from the western lowlands and then descends for a half-mile to the village perched at the edge of the forested hills and overlooking the hotter lowlands. There are views of the complex Tempisque River system, the Gulf of Nicoya and the Pacific Coast's bordering hills. The village is a ranching center, boasts a large bullring, a very pretty church, and an annual 4-day fair that features displays of horsemanship and a parade with many teams of oxen. The small home is located just where the paved road turns into the village a little more than a block from the church, yet it is a sheltered, quiet location, surrounded by hedges and trees except for the western side overlooking the lowlands. The quaint, colorful, and solid little home has one bedroom, one bathroom, and an open-plan kitchen, dining, living areas with a high ceiling made of pochote, one of Costa Rica's notable native hardwoods. In offering the home at a large reduction, the owner is not including the furniture and appliances except for a built-in sofa and 2-burner stove. |

The pretty Tierras Morenas church is in the center of the village a block and a half from this quiet home. Built in 1919, the church is dedicated to San Isidro Labrador, the saint of the workers. |
An oxcart driver (boyero) halts his team during the 2010 parade. Ordinarily the boyero simply places the tip of his staff on top of the oxbow and the oxen follow wherever he goes. Oxen are still useful in some situations. |
