The unique and comfortable home is custom built, 30’x30’ footprint, earth-friendly, two-story, straw-bale A-frame. It is made of post and galvanized 4”x4” beam construction, infilled with straw bales compressed with heavy gauge stucco wire, covered with 1-1 ¾” concrete. It includes built-in straw-bale framed concrete furniture (couch and dining nook benches, kitchen bar, bed platforms, and night tables.) The ground floor ncludes the living and dining areas, kitchen, bathroom, and private bedroom with a raised full-bed platform and two closets. There are custom lajas (slate stone) floors throughout and a spiral staircase to the second floor. Pantry, bedroom, closet, and bathroom doors are 120-year-old confessional doors from Maria Mira Rosa church, built in San Jose in 1893. |
