From La Tejona, San Luis can be seen amid the woods around San Luis Cove.
A home in a gated community has this view of the entrance to San Luis Cove.
300-resident San Luis is the lake village closest to the commercial center, Tilaran - 10 minutes away, more or less - and thus closest to the international airport at Liberia, a little over an hour away. Taking the right fork at the Cinco Esquinas intersection that joins the north and south lake roads, you find San Luis starting just 100 yards after rounding a steep, downhill curve. There's a church and a couple of small groceries. Several Gringos have over the years bought small Tico homes and rebuilt them. In recent years a gated community has been developed- (fractional ownership is available there) beside the pretty San Luis Cove, where there also is a lodge with a major restaurant. Two other gated communities are in the works, presenting lots with lake and mountain views. A long-time bar and restaurant has been greatly remodeled and is about to reopen. There are a bed and breakfast and a cabin resort, both for sale, a little past San Luis. A small country club with tennis courts, a beautiful pool, bistro, and weight room has reopened between San Luis and the village of Tronadora. Individual lots, acreage, and homes are available in and near San Luis. There is a boat launch at the cove providing easy access to boating, fishing, waterskiing, and kayaking. It's a very convenient place to own a vacation home, or a delightful area in which to settle. There is birdlife abundant enough to attract devoted birders as well as other wildlife such as howler monkeys and sloths. On the lake side of San Luis are a couple of areas to which come dozens if not hundreds of oropendolas and toucans to roost late each afternoon.
